    Band Tracking in Chicago

From a single vocal to a full band tracking live, I'll record you in the right room: my Oak Park studio for vocals, guitars, smaller drum setups, and small groups, or one of Chicago's premier tracking rooms for larger sessions.

    Two Ways to Record

    Oak Park, IL

    Oak Park Studio

My own room, just outside Chicago. Relaxed, focused, and set up so you can get great takes without watching the clock.

    • Isolation booth for vocals, guitar, and smaller drum setups
    • Space for multiple musicians tracking together
    • Ideal for vocals, overdubs, singer-songwriters, duos, and small groups

    Chicago

Full-Band Tracking at Chicago's Premier Studios

When the song needs a big room, I book and engineer the session at an established Chicago tracking room and handle the studio relationship, so your band just shows up and plays.

    • Full bands tracking live in the same room
    • Drums in a big, great-sounding space
    • Horns, strings, and larger ensembles

What a Tracking Day Looks Like

    1. 01

      Pre-production call

We talk through the songs, references, tempo and click, and the arrangement, so day one is about playing, not planning.

    2. 02

      Setup and sounds

Mics up, headphone mixes dialed, and sounds built around the band before the red light goes on.

    3. 03

      Live takes and basics

The band plays together to capture the core of each song with real energy.

    4. 04

      Overdubs

Vocals, solos, doubles, and extra parts layered on top of the keepers.

    5. 05

      Rough mixes same day

You leave with rough mixes so you can live with the songs on the drive home.

    6. 06

      Mixing

When you're ready, the tracks go straight into mixing.

    On Stage

    Live Concert Recording

Capture your show the way it really sounded. Using the FOH split and networked audio (Dante / SoundGrid), I multitrack every input during your performance, then mix it for a live album, livestream, or video release.

Built on 20+ years mixing live shows for touring artists, so I know how to get in, set up, and stay out of the crew's way.

    • Multitrack capture of every input
    • Audience and ambient mics for the sound of the room
    • Virtual soundcheck files for the band and the crew
    • Post-show mixing for a live album, livestream, or video
    • In-venue setup that stays out of the way of the house mix

    FAQ

    Recording FAQ

Can our band record live together?

Yes. Small groups can track together in my Oak Park studio. For full bands, I book one of Chicago's premier tracking rooms so everyone plays in the same space with proper isolation.

    Where will we record?

There are two options. My Oak Park studio is great for vocals, guitars, smaller drum setups, overdubs, singer-songwriters, duos, and small groups. For full bands, drums in a big room, horns, or strings, I book an established Chicago tracking room. I'll recommend the right room based on your band size and instrumentation.

How many songs can we record in a day?

It depends on the songs and how prepared the band is. A well-rehearsed band gets a lot more done in a day, and we'll plan a realistic number of songs together on the pre-production call.

Do we need to play to a click?

Not necessarily. We'll decide together during pre-production based on the songs and your style.

    Is studio time booked separately?

For sessions at partner studios, studio time is quoted together with engineering, so you get one clear quote.

    How is recording priced?

Every session is quoted per project based on the room, number of days, and band size. Send your project details for a quote within 24 hours.

Can you also mix and produce the record?

Yes. I can handle the mixing and the production too, so one person keeps track of the big picture from the first take to the final master.

    What should we bring?

Instruments in good repair, fresh strings and drum heads, your demos, a few reference tracks, lyrics, and a song order for the day.

Can you record our live show?

Yes. I take a split from the stage, usually over Dante or SoundGrid, and multitrack every input during your performance, plus audience mics for the room. After the show I mix it for a live album, livestream, or video release.

Will recording affect the show's sound?

No. I record from a split, so the house and monitor mixes aren't touched.
